The Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. - Tau Beta Sigma Chapter, through its Sigma Education Foundation, successfully hosted its annual Scholarship and Awards Gala on Sunday, January 11, at Savannah State University. The evening brought together community leaders, supporters, and brothers of the fraternity to celebrate excellence, service, and legacy while raising critical funds for scholarships and the chapter’s Sigma Beta Club.
The Scholarship and Awards Gala serves as a cornerstone fundraising event, supporting educational scholarships for students and mentorship programming for young men through the Sigma Beta Club. The event also recognized individuals and organizations whose work reflects the fraternity’s guiding principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service.

- Bigger and Better Business Award: Arthur & Lillian Williams of Odyssey 2.0
- Social Action Award: Zerik Samples & Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity
- Education Award: Bobby Roberts & Upward Bound
- Lifetime Achievement Award: Shirley James & The Savannah Tribune
In addition to community honors, the chapter presented internal recognitions celebrating leadership and dedication. The Sigma of the Year Award was presented to Charlton Jefferson for his outstanding service and commitment to the chapter.
“This gala represents more than a night of celebration— it reflects our investment in the future,” said Deion Williams, President of the Tau Beta Sigma Chapter. “Through scholarships and the Sigma Beta Club, we are intentionally creating pathways for young people to succeed, while honoring those who exemplify service and leadership in our community.”
Moncello Stewart, President of the Sigma Education Foundation, emphasized the long-term impact of the event. “Every dollar raised supports our mission to uplift students and mentor young men through meaningful, consistent engagement,” Stewart said. “This gala is a reminder that when we come together with purpose, we create opportunities that last far beyond one evening.”
The Scholarship and Awards Gala is part of the chapter’s broader Founders’ Day Celebration, commemorating the legacy of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and reaffirming its commitment to service, education, and community empowerment.
