Metro Atlanta Sigma Zeta Joint Founders Day return to In-Person Gathering

Founders' Day

Posted on Friday, February 3, 2023 8:30 PM

Phi Beta Sigma and Zeta Phi Beta members packed the St. Phillip’s African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church in Decatur, Georgia to observe the organizations’ founders’ days. Over 400 people, most wearing royal blue and white, attended the January 28th event, which was the first in-person Metro Atlanta Sigma Zeta Joint Founders’ Day Observance since the COVID-19 pandemic. While the main purpose of the luncheon was to pay tribute to the founders of each organization and celebrate the constitutional bond, many took the opportunity to fellowship and strengthen the friendship amongst “phamily” members. Songs selections from the Metro Atlanta Sigma Zeta choir led by Dr. Carl Hall and Soror Diann Knight, were inspiring and even brought some attendees to their feet. After the meal, Kenneth Straughter, Immediate Past Georgia State Director and Southern Regional First Vice Director of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., delivered the keynote address. The planning committee rewarded Helping Mamas of Norcross, Georgia with the Dove Award. The scholarship recipients were Soror Rhea Hill, Soror Sakinah Powell, and Brother Moziah Daniels.
