Kenneth "Sarge" Straughter elected Southern Regional Director

Phi Beta Sigma brothers and chapters from the state of Georgia received were recognized for their work at the 2024 Southern Region Conference in Nassau, Bahamas. The annual conference was held outside of the United States for the first time since 2017 and was attended by over 500 Phi Beta Sigma brothers and their guests. The conference was also the last conference for Southern Regional Director, Dr. Errick Farmer. Vontavious Howell of the Gamma Pi Sigma Chapter in Macon was named Teacher of the Year. Georgia State Director of Publicity, Deion Williams received the Collegiate Advisor of the Year award.
There were several chapters that were rewarded for outstanding work and chapter efficiency. The Alpha Pi Chapter of Fort Valley State was recognized for the outstanding in the Bigger and Better Business program. The Lambda Sigma Chapter of Atlanta was awarded for the most service hours and Program Implementation Assessments for the Sapphire Level chapter. Xi Chi Sigma Chapter, also of Atlanta, was recognized for recording the Bigger and Better Business hours for chapters at the Platinum Level. The Rho Beta Sigma Chapter of Gwinnett County received an award for logging the most service hours for the Diamond level chapters.
Two Georgia Sigma brothers were inducted into the Outstanding Sigmas of the Southern Region. Former Georgia State Secretary and Director of Sigma Beta Clubs Brian Dawsey of Tau Beta Sigma Chapter and Former Southern Region Director of Education, Dr. Samuel Richardson of the Epsilon Gamma Sigma (Augusta) Chapter received the highest individual honor in the region.
Three Georgia alumni chapters were named Southern Region Model Chapters of the Year. The Sigma Eta Sigma Chapter of Henry County was named Silver Level Chapter of the Year. The Tau Beta Sigma Chapter of Savannah was Diamond Level Chapter. The Xi Chi Sigma of Atlanta was named the Platinum Level Chapter of the Year.
While chapters and brothers were recognized for their outstanding work in their communities, several brothers were elected to Southern Region Executive Board positions for the 2024-2026 term. Lyric Cosby of the Sigma Eta Sigma Chapter and Frank Wright of the Alpha Phi Sigma (Columbus) Chapter were re-elected to the positions of secretary and treasurer respectively. Former Georgia State Director and Southern Region First Vice Director Kenneth "Sarge" Straughter of the Delta Mu Sigma (Athens) Chapter was elected as the 37th Southern Regional Director.
