After serving in the military, he chose a career in finance and was involved in the city's civic affairs. In the fraternity, he would serve in many capacities on multiple levels which included Georgia State Director, International Treasurer, and International President. Sutton holds the title of International President Emeritus. Some of Sutton's accomplishments in the fraternity include in the Distinguished Service Key and inaugural class inductee of the Outstanding Sigmas of the Southern Region. He is also known for his involvement in Atlanta's civil rights movement which was noted as being smoother than other major cities. Sutton is the only Morehouse alumnus who was initiated in a fraternity chapter at Morehouse to serve as the fraternity's International President. The unveiling was a key event for Chi Chapter's Centennial Celebration. Key brothers present for the event were International Director of Education Dr. Emmanuel Rowe, International Director of Collegiate Affairs, Monaleto C.
