Since 2008, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Gamma Pi Sigma Chapter has provided scholarships in honor of its chapter member, Jerome P. Guy. This year is no different as the chapter issued scholarships for graduating high school seniors from Bibb County. On August 9, 2026 at Central High School Library in Macon, Georgia, Savannah Neville, Mikayla Partridge, Kailah Griffin, Ronald Smith, and Mekhi Tuff were the recipients of the 2026 edition of the Jerome P. Guy Scholarship and have chosen to further their education at the four-year college/university. Neville, Partridge, and Tuff are graduates of Rutland High School in Macon have selected the University of Georgia, Georgia State University, and Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University respectively. Griffin is a Mount De Sales graduate who will matriculate at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Ronald Smith, III, a Central High Scholarship will head to Statesboro and further his education at Georgia Southern University. Bibb County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Dan Sims, provided a keynote message to scholarship recipients, supporters of the recipients, chapter brothers, and attendees which included the family of Jerome P. Guy.
Guy was an educator and administrator in the Bibb County School System until his retirement in 1988. He also was a reactivation charter member of the Gamma Pi Sigma Chapter and served as Georgia State Director. In 2008, he received the Outstanding Sigma of the Southern Region, the highest individual honor given to a Phi Beta Sigma man in the Southern Region. He served throughout the fraternity until in his death in 2023.
